The Canoe Federation of Slovenia received the "Tap Water" certificate at the 2nd meeting of certificate recipients, organised by the Chamber of Public Utilities of Slovenia – CPUS. With this, the Federation joins Slovenian organisations that encourage the consumption of tap water exclusively and the elimination of bottled water service in their facilities, at events, and during daily meetings.
By obtaining the certificate, organisations set an example in eliminating environmentally harmful practices and encourage employees, partners, clients, and the wider public to adopt more friendly, sustainable, and eco-conscious approaches to daily water consumption. They actively raise awareness of the importance of reducing waste and, last but not least, implement measures to protect the health of their employees.
The Canoe Federation of Slovenia has been promoting sustainable development practices for many years and is currently part of the Erasmus+ Sport program DECK - Developing Environmental and Circular Knowledge, which addresses issues of environmental sustainability and circular economy in organising sports events and competitions. In addition to educational institutions such as Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna from Pisa and Scuola dello Sport di Sport e Salute SpA, the project also includes the Italian Canoe Federation, the Canoe Federation of Slovenia, the Croatian Caboe Federation, the Greek Canoe Federation, and the International Canoe Federation.
At the presentation of the "Tap Water" certificates, mag. Janko Širec, president of CPUS, said: “Only one percent of the world’s water is drinkable, and we are fortunate in this beautiful country of Slovenia that it is, in most cases, available to the entire population. The purpose of this meeting is to mark World Water Day, which is on March 22. What does it mean to hold the 'Tap Water' certificate? It means a commitment to responsible water management and trust in the quality of Slovenian drinking water. There are already over 100 recipients of the 'Tap Water' certificate, and with this, we aim to spread good practices.”
In addition to the Canoe Federation of Slovenia, the certificate was also awarded to Roto Group, JP Komunala Cerknica, Zeos, A.L.P. Peca, and the Municipality of Ravne na Koroškem. The event continued with the presentation of gold certificates for "Tap Water" to organisations that have held the certificate for five years. First, the gold certificate was received by mag. Mojca Štritof Brus, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning. This was followed by a group signing of the "Tap Water" gold certificates and the presentation of honorary certificates to companies such as Komunala Hrastnik, JP EDŠ - Ecological Society Šentjernej, Kostak, Municipal and Construction Company, Komunala Nova Gorica, BASS Celje, the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem, ETA Cerkno, AstraZeneca UK Limited - Branch in Slovenia, Public Utility Kraški Vodovod Sežana, JP Komunalno Stanovanjsko Podjetje Litija, Komunala Ribnica, KNAUF Insulation, the Municipality of Velika Polana, the City Municipality of Kranj, Komunala Radgona, and A1 Slovenia.
